More often than not, you have probably heard of the brand name “Botox.” Just like Botox, Jeuveau & Xeomin are medications known as neurotoxins that are designed to treat fine lines and wrinkles in the muscles of the face and body. It can be used in many different ways, though most of our patients at Eden MedSpa are familiar with its ability to address the unwanted signs of aging on the face. However, there is much more to these neurotoxins like Botox than many patients realize. It has been available in the medical field for decades and is more than an anti-aging treatment. Our board-certified physician, Dr. Obi Oriaku, can talk to patients about how Botox injections can be used for cosmetic and non-aesthetic purposes.
Here are eight uses for Botox injections for you to consider:
- Facial enhancement. Botox is widely known for its ability to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause these facial expressions, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Botox injections are commonly used to reduce forehead lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, and frown lines between the eyebrows.
- Migraines. The FDA has approved Botox as an effective treatment for chronic migraines. Injections are given every 12 weeks and can help reduce the frequency and severity of migraine headaches.
- Excessive sweating. Botox injections can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. Botox can significantly reduce sweating in the underarms, hands, and feet by blocking nerve signals to the sweat glands.
- Muscle spasms. Botox is effective in treating muscle spasms and stiffness caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. It relaxes the affected muscles and reduces pain.
- Overactive bladder. Botox injections have been approved for use in treating overactive bladder symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and urinary incontinence. Injecting Botox into the bladder muscles can help increase its capacity and decrease symptoms.
- Jawline slimming. Botox injections can relax and shrink the muscles in the jaw area for those looking for a slimmer jawline or to reduce the appearance of a square jaw. This results in a more defined and contoured jawline.
- Correction of a gummy smile. Botox can also correct a “gummy smile,” where excessive gum tissue is exposed when smiling. Submitting small amounts of Botox into the upper lip can relax the muscles and decrease the amount of gum shown when smiling.
- Non-surgical nose job. In some cases, Botox injections can be used as an alternative to traditional rhinoplasty surgery for minor changes to the shape or position of the nose.
