Platelet-rich plasma is taking the world by storm as its growth factors are extremely useful in aesthetics. Dr. Obi and his team at Eden MedSpa of Charlotte, North Carolina, utilize this plasma, derived from the patient, as an anti-aging tool for fine lines, wrinkles, and folds. It allows patients to seek treatment for skin imperfections without invasive plastic surgery. Let’s look closer at PRP injections and how they are used for aging skin, dark circles under the eyes, and other common client complaints heard by our board-certified internal medicine physician.
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. Platelet-rich plasma is a concentrated form containing growth factors and other healing properties.
PRP treatment involves obtaining a small amount of your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. The PRP is then injected into the under-eye area, where it stimulates collagen production and improves skin texture, reducing dark circles.
PRP treatment is generally considered safe as it uses your blood components. However, as with any type of medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects, including minor bruising and swelling at the injection site. When you schedule your consultation visit with Dr. Obi of Eden MedSpa, you can take this time to ask questions about the injections and fully understand how they work and the risks that you are taking.
We first encourage patients to schedule a consultation visit with our doctor to be fully evaluated and decide if the procedure is right for the individual. We will cover medical history, family history, and any medications patients take that could conflict with their treatment. Then, we will prepare the patient for their treatment by drawing blood and preparing the PRP. Once the PRP is ready for injection, Dr. Obi administers it into the targeted areas of the face using a very fine needle. We might use a topical numbing solution before the injections to numb the area and ensure patient comfort during their visit to our office.
Results can vary from person to person, but typically, our patients see initial results within a few weeks after their first treatment. Multiple treatments may be needed for several weeks and months to achieve optimal results. Results can last 18 months or longer with proper maintenance and follow-up treatments, which can be scheduled as you leave our office following your injection appointment.
