At Eden MedSpa, our neighbors in and around Charlotte, North Carolina, can live well and look great by unlocking their body’s natural healing properties and capacity! Our founder, Board-certified internal medicine specialist Dr. Obi, repairs damaged tissues on the face and body the natural way with PRP. The following four benefits are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what we can accomplish with this skin-boosting powerhouse.
PRP refers to “Platelet-Rich Plasma.” Platelets are the cells in your blood that primarily function to aid in clotting. They are made up of proteins called growth factors. These components are natural “healers.” The plasma part of PRP refers to the liquid part of your blood. So, plasma rich in platelets contains a high concentration of healing/regenerative growth factors. To make this concentrated solution, a small sample of your blood is drawn and spun in a special machine called a centrifuge. The centrifuge isolates and enriches the sample with platelets/growth factors. Since this concentration is derived from your own blood, it is considered a highly safe, predictable, and natural way to repair damaged tissues. Its high degree of compatibility with biological tissues also makes it an appealing alternative to therapies that use products derived from synthetic or donor sources.
Dr. Obi is experienced in various applications for PRP. He uses this healing cocktail to support hair regrowth among those with balding or thinning hair, to ease joint pain caused by the likes of arthritis, and to restore sexual health and intimacy. As it relates to facial services, PRP can be used to improve the appearance of all sorts of signs of aging and sun damage – from dry, leathery skin and fine wrinkles to dark undereye circles and mottled, uneven tone.
PRP is applied in a minimally invasive manner. Dr. Obi injects PRP into areas of the face that could use the rejuvenation the most via thin needles. It may also be applied through small openings made in the skin via microneedling techniques. Either way, it presents a non-aggressive and non-surgical alternative to smooth, soften, and otherwise repair aging and damaged skin. Less invasive therapies still support other benefits, as they are generally associated with fewer risks and complications during and after treatment. Minimally-invasive therapies like PRP are also associated with minimal demands on your body and schedule for healing and recovery.
PRP is among those treatments that support changes deep within the skin. Notably, the growth factors in PRP encourage the growth of new cells and collagen production. This protein contributes to the plumpness of our skin and declines at a rate of around 1% each year after the age of ~25. Since these processes are supported, PRP therapy is associated with “durable” results. After an initial series of two or three treatments, you can maintain results for anywhere from six months to two years before “touch-ups” are needed.
