At Eden MedSpa, Dr. Ngozi and our team in Charlotte, North Carolina, believe in healing the skin from within. This can be accomplished with guidance on nutrition, habits, and behaviors that fuel both healthy, beautiful skin and a healthy body, as well as special services that encourage beneficial and natural changes in the skin. Microneedling is a great fit for this mission. It can stimulate structural changes that result in potentially dramatic improvements in the feel and appearance of your skin in just five steps.
Preparing for any treatment at our office is specific to the patient and depends on their unique medical history, the medications and supplements they take, and so forth. Following pre-treatment instructions supports the best results and also helps to minimize risks of side effects and complications during and after treatment. Generally, all patients should refrain from any hair removal and injectable treatments for at least two weeks prior to treatment. Avoid harsh skincare products (like retinols and exfoliating acids), and always exercise good sun protection.
Microneedling can be performed safely and comfortably with an anesthetic applied topically to the skin in the treatment area. Once you are fully numb, we will carefully cleanse and dry your skin. A custom serum may also be applied, which helps the microneedling device to glide evenly and effortlessly over the skin.
The active treatment part of the process involves applying a handheld device to the numbed, cleansed, and prepared areas. The device is made up of numerous micro-needles. These sterile needles will be passed precisely over the skin. The depth of the needles is furthermore customized to your needs; for instance, longer needles that penetrate more deeply may be necessary to effectively treat acne or other scars, while sites with thinner skin (such as the forehead) or more modest concerns like fine lines may be treated with smaller needles. A few passes may be required to adequately and evenly make the micro-channels that trigger wound healing, new cell growth, and the production of fresh collagen.
Once treatment is over, we minimize irritation by applying a custom serum and cooling (such as a mask). It’s not unusual to leave our office with pinpoint scabbing and a bit of red discoloration. Never fear, as these effects are temporary and will subside as your skin heals. It’s all part of the healing process that will ultimately result in better-looking and healthier skin.
Follow any instructions provided by Eden MedSpa to speed up a smooth healing process. In the hours and days following treatment, it is a good practice to use gentle cleansers and skin care products and avoid UV exposure. Many cosmetic treatments can make your skin much more photosensitive and vulnerable to the harmful effects of UV light. Improvements are gradual and cumulative. You may notice improvements in the softness of your skin after a single treatment and within one week. At least three treatments may be necessary for more extensive damage, such as acne scars. After reaching your goal results, all it takes to keep them is a touch-up two or four times per year.
